Connect Outgrow with GTM & Ad Words to Track Conversions

In case you want to connect Outgrow with Google Tag Manager, Analytics and Ad Words, there can be instances where the connection will work but Analytics won't be able to track the Conversions. In this case, you will be able to create and track the Submit Lead Form event, but Analytics won't be able to assign the conversion to a Keyword, which will lead to all the keyword tracking getting lost. To resolve the instance related to tying up a conversion with a specific keyword, here are the 2 solutions that you can opt for.

Solution 1

A. You can pass the respective keyword in the URL of the landing page. When you pass a keyword in the URL, this is how the URL will appear: landingpagewebsite.com/outgrowpage?keyword=X.

B. Once that is done, you can create a Custom Variable for each respective keyword in Outgrow.

C. Post setting up the Custom Variable in Outgrow, you can now pass the keyword using Custom Pixel in Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager. Once that is done you will see an event in Google Analytics, for each lead that was successfully submitted, as well the keyword that was used by the user.

Solution 2

The second solution that we can opt for is that we can use the UTM Term parameter. This parameter can be used to pass on the Keyword. Here is how the URL will appear once the UTM Term parameter is used to pass the Keyword: YourWebsitesLandingPage.Com/Outgrowpage/?utm_term={keyword}. While opting for this solution, you need to make sure that Google Analytics is configured in your account for the respective content piece, and under the Configure tab in the respective content builder, you need to navigate to the Integration section and under Outgoing Data make sure UTM Term parameter field is checked.

Important thing to keep in mind while opting for 2nd Solution

In case you opt for the 2nd solution mentioned above, here is what you need to keep in mind in case you are running a Paid or an Organic Campaign:

A. In case you are running a Paid Campaign, then you need to add the UTM_Term={Keyword} parameter in the Ad URL. Once you add the parameter to the Ad URL, this is how the URL will look like: example.outgrow.co/?utm_source=source&utm_medium=medium&utm_campaign=name&utm_term={keyword}.

📘

IMPORTANT NOTE

Post setting up the URL, Google Analytics will pick up the keyword and these keywords will be visible in the Paid Keywords section present under Campaigns within the Acquisition section.

B. In case you are running an Organic Campaign, you need to ensure that you have integrated Google Search Console & Google Analytics. You can learn more about setting up the integration here.

📘

IMPORTANT NOTE

Once this is done, you need to access your Google Analytics account, and under Acquisition, you can navigate to Search Console and then to Landing Pages section. Here you can search for the Quiz URL in the Landing Pages section, and you will find the Organic Keywords used by the user to arrive at the quiz.
